Fashion Dysmorphic Disorder

I'll get to that Christmas post shortly, but I just can't pass up the opportunity to share with you a gem I just unearthed when organizing my office.

At the end of the summer, Sidamo attended a week-long day camp for Ethiopian adoptees. There were very few highlights from the week, but this was one. Actually, it's probably the one. There was a table set up with people shapes, as well as fabric, paper, yarn, etc., so the kids could make replicas of their unique families. In the time it took others to create their entire (often very large) families, Sidamo created this. His image of himself.

Someday this boy will shop for his own clothing. Some parents might fear such a day, but I just can't help but be excited by all the blogging opportunities it will present.

Oh gosh, that's priceless!!!! Ashen would pick something similar. His purple shirt is his favorite! The hair tuft is awesome too.

Oh yes.

When Quinn was in K5 and we were heading into his classroom to discuss the fact that he didn't fit too well into traditional school with his teacher, we saw all the kids' representations of themselves. Same idea as what Sidamo's done here. Except that every kid made an accurate representation of themselves - even down to plaid pants and collared shirts. We looked around for Quinn - couldn't find him... His teacher pointed and said 'That's Quinn.'

He made himself with blonde hair and blue eyes, so that was right. His outfit was like Sidamo's only pink. Jeweled belt included. His was the only one like that. By far. So, I say, thank god for Sidamo!!!
