L&D

Greg and I have been at labor and delivery since a little before noon, but I'm not sure exactly why. I went to my regular doctor's office for my appointment this morning, and they thought my amniotic fluid levels were dangerously low so they sent me to the hospital. We've been in a delivery room since then. After about 3.5 hours we finally saw a doctor who said my fluid is low, but not as low as the first person suggested. The baby is moving a ton and seems to be happy and healthy. Still, the doctor wanted to induce but didn't set any actual plan in place, telling us we could work it out with the doctor who was coming on at 5. It's now after 6, and we haven't seen anyone—not even a nurse—since around 3:30. So I have no idea what we're doing here, whether we'll need to induce, etc. Either way, it's not the low-key, low-intervention almost-birth-at-home I was envisioning, and I'm feeling a little powerless.

Keep sending the good thoughts. If labor could start on its own before doctor number two comes up with a different plan, that would be awesome. And given the pace at which they seem to be working around here, I'd say it's entirely possible.

Come on baby!

May those docs linger a little longer on their coffee breaks, or whatever the hell it is they do while people are anxiously waiting for them.

Take a deep breath...we are all there with you. (:

Hopefully you can will your body in the right direction...thinking good thoughts for you. I checked your blog because as we were riding our bikes home across the park I suddenly thought you might be in labor. Hope I'm right...the natural way....

Oh, D! I hope the doctors don't get pushy on ya, but I'm sure it will all be fine! I hope it happens for you like, NOW! I know you are stressed, but try to stay calm. It will be fine, and baby sis will be here really soon.

Dear baby,

I know it's nice and cozy in there, and you don't have to deal with bright lights or big brothers slobbery kisses or any of that jazz, but there's a whole world out here waiting for you, and frankly it's a little rude to keep us all waiting on the edge of our seats for so long. so enjoy your last few moments of quiet darkness, and then come out and play!

Dear doctors:

do not be jerks. what the hell are you thinking keeping a pregnant woman cooped up all day without so much as a massage or a large box of chocolate, or some spicy food. This amazing woman is about to create a life. the least you could do is be punctual and forthright with your information.

Dear Dierdre and Greg:

Best of luck. my fingers and toes are crossed that your birthing experience is as peaceful and positive as possible!

Hang in there, Deirdre! Precious little works out "as planned" but the baby will be worth it in the end. You're Sooooooo close.

Hang in there, Momma! I totally agree with cathy - I know how hard it is to have the birth you planned not happen - my "plan" (HA!) of a blissful natural birth ended with a C section after 21 hours of Benjamin's big head not being able to pass thru the natural route. :) And you know what, any disappointment was GONE the moment I saw that sweet little cone head. :)

That said, I hope your girl has decided to come on her own and show those docs!!
